Yes, this was indeed a great show, but why do they give him a pentagram as an award. What comes in my mind is satanism and communism when I see that symbol. They should have given him a Godliness symbol instead, because John is truly a man of Godliness.

There are many great composers out there today, in the world of cinema, but I don't think you could ask anyone working on this type of grand, life-changing movies - it doesn't matter if it's an actor or an actress, a director or a script writer - if they could pick one composer to write and conduct the music for their current epic project, they'd all pick John Williams. We all owe this man our heartfelt thanks for what he has contributed to the movies that defined our childhoods.

To this day, I hear the music of Star Wars and get goose pimples! This man, well the only good description is GENIUS! Every time I have seen a film with his music, I have really just get so emotional, when the movie is over, I feel so lost for a little bit but in my head the music goes on. Hearing the music of Schindler's List brought tears to my eyes, just as the movie did (is it bad that i can picture the movie in my head as I hear the music?)

13/10/2017 wrlord
It is a crying shame that great film composers like Williams, E. Bernstein, L. Bernstein, Previn, Hermann, Goldsmith, Horner, Barry, Tiomkin, Max Steiner, and even terrific TV composers like Fred Steiner, are condemned today to play second banana to non-musicians like Silvestri, Elfman and, worst of all, Zimmer - people who couldn't make movie magic if they had a top hat and a rabbit. What is wrong with today's audiences, who can't even tell the difference???

Responder a este comentario >>

13/10/2017 oh lord
cry me a river.
14/10/2017 David Monks
All of those composers are incredible. It isn't only Zimmer that makes his music. He has an entire company, but what he has done is incredible because what he has caused to be created is incredible. Silvestri is incredible. Elfman's work from Nightmare Before Christmas to Cirque Du Soleil is all stunning.

What is your problem?? All of them are good. Including the one's you said could not make movie magic.
14/10/2017 jslasher1
I would not include Alan Silvestri in your list. However, your assessment of Zimmer is spot-on. You misspelt HerRmann.
14/10/2017 ChuckRazor
wrlord At least L. Bernstein and Previn had Kennedy Center Honors along with Williams.
23/10/2017 ewaf88
And Don't forget Barry Gray - if you want to see a fantastic marriage of music and opening sequences look for Thunderbirds opening and Stingray. Not even Williams could top them.

I haven't cried over the passings of many famous people so far...but I think that when John Williams' time comes, he will be an exception. His music has elevated so many of my favorite films, far beyond the likes of "Star Wars" or "Jurassic Park". My personal favorite is probably the score from "Superman", especially the instrumental version of "Can You Read My Mind?".

ANY reason to be nasty about it? Any reason at all? Fuck off.

What the hell are you blathering on about it?

Will Farell might be a really cool guy in real life but his comedy revolves around him acting like a little child...which isn't really funny. Mostly just shouting and whining.

It was a fucking joke. Take the stick out your ass.

i wonder if the amount of people that would state the opposite is in the billions.

The mark of a great Composer, is when you listen to one of their songs from a movie they've been in, close your eyes and you instantly know what scene goes with what song. I love this man, and he will always be my all time favorite..

Exactly! Not only can you name the movie, but the actual scene like you said. How true! Can't wait to hear his score for The last Jedi. And Indy 5. And Ready Player One (Is he doing the music for that one?)

John Williams' contributions to the film industry can not be overstated, and Steven Spielberg and George Lucas can never pay him enough for what he's done for them.

You have been brainwashed by iTunes, which refer to every track as a 'song' regardless of the idiom [i.e. instrumental]. A 'song' is a work of music with accompanying lyrics. An instrumental work, without lyrics, is NOT a song.
03/11/2017 Thor214
Colloquially, "song" is synonymous with track, movement, or excerpt from an extensive work. No one honestly cares outside of Music Theory I and Music History I. Do you confront people in the streets with your self-important educating? I majored in music and I honestly don't give a shit what people call it, but I understand that people will give fewer shits if you correct them like a patronizing asshole.

I didn't call you the fool , it was another. but both wanted to pick apart an upbeat comment with slightly snooty nitpicking. i mean is this video about liking John Williams or or is it about any other composer . You do the math, good day bro.

Ofc we are all here admiring John williams music he is a great modern composer (if not the best "modern" composer, but you have to stop making absurd comparisons, for example you can't compare the complexity of the Ninth symphony from Beethoven, or the Brandemburg concerts from Bach, with the modern music made to be listen by the common masses, who don't have trained ears to admire or understand the classical works, and i think if John Williams reads your comment he would feel angry too, because he admires and understand classical music so much, so he can perceive your comment was an insult to all the great composers, comparing him with Einstein.

PD: I've compared Einstein with Bach just because Bach music is the most mathematical and intelectual music you can find, playing his works make you use both sides of your head at the same time, and makes you more intelligent, no other composer have that complexity. I know it cause i've learned many works and you can play almost all at first read, but when i've played the Well temepered works or his other keyboard works, it was like left hand and right hand was playing total different things and at first was unconfortable, but practising more and more all was perfect an have perfect sense, then i've returned to the other composers works and they were much much easier to play, so is true that Bach music was the most intellectual and healthierfor the brain and soul. But i'm still prefering Vivaldi's music ;).
