Compositor:

I know one is not allowed to say that but i think Williams is better than most classical composers...yeah i also know that one can not really compare them, still...

Responder a este comentario >>

25/03/2015 wardain
yea from actual musical term he is most talented composer of all time.
28/03/2015 Bingxin Zhang
+Tobias Scheel I also think so. I wonder what is the status of film music in the history of music. I think it's a new invention in the 20th centry
27/08/2015 Bella Day
+Tobias Scheel I'm not a classical musician so I don't know any of the technical stuff about composing music for an orchestra (I know I'm being glared at xD), but I listen to A LOT of movie soundtracks. My top five favourite pieces would have to be be (in no particular order):

~August's Rhapsody composed by Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer (August Rush)
~Obliviate & Ron leaves by Alexandre Desplat (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1)
~Casper's Lullaby by James Horner (Casper)
~He's a Pirate by Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean)
~The Grey Heavens by Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King)

Well, technically that's six but there are so many! <3
06/01/2016 Τάσος Μπεκύρος
+Tobias Scheel The style of Williams is a next step from classical music, you can't say that he is better than most of classical composers when william himself got inspired by them, you just can't
08/01/2016 JumboCod91
+Bingxin Zhang Well it's an interesting question. Orchestral film music is clearly inspired in it's form and writing style by Western "Savant" music of the 19th-20th century, however Savant music has advanced onto something else over the past 50 years to what we widely refer to as "contemporary" music until we are able to categorize and name it with hindsight. Thus film music is in a weird limbo, the last curator of a bygone style and has evolved, thanks to monumental composers like John Williams, Howard Shore, Harry Gregson-Williams and others, into an art from of it's own. Where Film music or rather Orchestral Film Music falls short is in it's ability to create something new. While Savant Music constantly experiments and innovates in a search for ever increased complexity Film Music must stay within the niche it has dug for itself. It must satisfy the public's expectation. Very rarely do you get true innovation in a film score, most of the music in it is highly predictable but then that's what you get when you use a 500 year old system. One thing is for sure, while film composers may not have great innovation skills they can surely spin a great theme and when coupled with a large 20th century orchestra you're in for a treat. While I do believe Savant music has rightly moved on I am glad that some form of music is exploiting the great heritage of the Romantic-Modern music era to the fullest and still manages to come up with some great pieces for us to enjoy.

More film music should be played in concert halls.. It's the future of symphonic music, something that probably will be viewed as "the classical music" 50-100 years from now.

Because Williams used the celeste to personify Hedwig, specifically during flight...

It's called a Celeste. The strings and hammers are replaced by small bells and chimes, and wires and clappers are used to strike them. The instrument works nicely on its own or with a few strings/harp, depending on the scenario. So here, the Celeste is joined several times by strings, and has a few solo moments. Williams is quite an exponent of the Celeste in much of his writing. Does that now answer your question? :D

Celeste, it's more like a Bells/glockenspiel but with keys in stead of mallets...
