Nobody does it like Herrmann does on the soundtrack. But--I do enjoy watching an orchestra perform this fandango. The only other way to play it is on guitars and castanets, and Herrmann audibly had fun scoring it for a full orchestra!

MMmmmm. That left a bad taste in the mouth. I have nothing against the BBC Philharmonic, but that was pretty bad. I think Joel McNeely's re-recording was fairly solid. McNeely also re-recorded Vertigo quite sometime ago now with Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and that was a near perfect re-recording of a Herrmann classic.

Awful, awful, awful. Mr Ziegler could not conduct a Bessie Smith concert.

Brilliant but not as remotely good or precise as the original opening theme. Not even close!

In the year 1958 when I was a nine year boy and I saw the movie "The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad" and I heard the first musical notes by the late Bernard Herrmann...I felt excitement and Herrmann's music made the movie more exciting. Bernard Herrmann is excellence in cinema music.

how music like this comes from brain to paper to instrument to orchestra is remarkable

If Alfred Hitchcock is the Master of Suspense then Bernard Herrmann is the Master of the Cinema Soundtracks.
It's a pleasure to listen this main theme from the movie "North by Northwest"
they (Hollywood industry)  don't make films like they used to like they did in the old days.

Herrmann is without peer in film music. No one comes close. I think not even Prokofiev (ALEXANDER NEVSKY) showed the command of the orchestra that Herrmann did. And, within a limited palette, Herrmann did have extraordinary range, almost every score being different from every other, yet all having Herrmann's thumbprint, to use Herrmann's own word for orchestrations. RIP, Maestro. I only wish you had lived 10 years longer.
