Compositor:

Beautifully played but this arrangement skipped some of the more remarkable parts of the original score.....

Ya see...I'm not in line with the whole "mathematics is universal language" tripe...I believe music is the universal language.

Sure, I didn't want to ruin our understanding of music but there is a correlation between the two. My father is a music professor, I grew up around various genres. There are folks who can write or play music without an ounce of theory/training. If approached by the book then there it is I suppose. If approached by emotion / feeling I don't think math has anything to do with it until after a piece is composed...then maybe it can be broken down mathematically.

I always approach music with the emotion / feeling (i was a Jazz Pianist in a previous life, and i approach everything with improvisation).

But even if "mathematics" are not used (theory etc..), example of self teaching people (i was self teached mainly and took some lessons after with some big teacher), often we'll notice that great musicians have, how to tell this in english, they are/werer kind of related to mathematics at some point or another (not everybody of course).

if i take my example, mathematics was the only thing which interested me in normal school. I hated school, the only thing i wanted to do in my life was music, but the only other stuff which succeded to interest me was mathematics.

one of my ancestor was one of the master of the counter point, and teached music to a crazy number of people including johannn christian bach and W.A.Mozart, and among other stuff, he was as well, a mathematician.

Even without theory training, learning to play music is anyway related to mathematics. even the most basic stuff. quarter, 8th, 16th, etc...

To be able to play music we have some stuff to learn and do, and if we look back at it, we'll see that both stuff are related, even if none of them will be approached by the player.

look at what is a "Tempo"... the two things are related at one point or an another.

It doesn't ruin one's understanding of music to be made aware of the technical aspects of it. Math has a lot to do with music, even at the most basic level through the most technically advanced level. Notes are separated by perfect intervals of frequency that can be described by math. The most appealing chords are mathematically appealing, too. Even things like a slide on a trombone has a mathematical correlation, since the most appealing method of playing one is described by beautifully simple calculus. By extension, the musical language in CE3K was both beautiful from a musical standpoint as well as a mathematical one, because the music in the "teaching" moment at the end of the film was partly created by a linguist, who likely used mathematics in some way to give it structure apart from it simply being an emotional "language".

Math and science are the universal languages. Intelligent beings that can produce technology would and will come to grips with the same laws of physics that we do. You understand those these things though science and math, not sitting around and making music about it ;)

I will answer to you guys. Sync Issue can happen for 3 reasons

- Enconding video / audio who failed on my part
- Youtube sometimes make a REAL video audio sync issue on some video.
- a bad understanting at what is conducting. Yes conducting is about anticipation, of course it is ! so if you think there is a video audio issue, check the instruments, not the conductor !
17/08/2016 Grymmorgan
+martyprod2 Maybe a small communications issue between us, but I was agreeing with your Point #3.  ;^)
17/08/2016 martyprod2
Which issue ? i was just confirming what you said as a second answer about the sync issue to James Moehring because unfortunatly, it's a message i got everyday on a lot of Williams video, better to repeat it often sometimes :). i was not really answering to you (sorry :) ) but more a generic answer to everybody who is asking themselves the question, think it's out of sync and leave a bad comment and a thumbs down with it :( some even told that Mr williams was a bad conductor....

+martyprod2 All good. We're in agreement, then. :^) Thanks for the great video! :^D

You're welcome :) i still have some williams videos as conductor to upload here (but not his music, like classical piece with violonist Sarah Chang etc...), i'll try to post them soon ! so stay tuned :).

This is my favorite of all his great themes. I think there are five primus inter pares in the history of movie making: Williams, Henry Mancini, Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith and Charles Chaplin.

+MichaelHansenFUN Yes, i posted this show (with R2 and C3po) as well here. check my john williams playlist here.
here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMuVWQHKB4Y

no, this one is later, around 1992/1993. it's from a japan tour done in collaboration with the john williams japanese fan club. i didn't posted it because i removed all the interviews, and just posted the tunes, but at the end of the concert, there is a bunch of japanese teen girls who cry (a lot completly histeric lol) and offer tons of flower to Mr Williams lol. Williams wrote a theme for this club as a gift, that we can find "around" if we search well (on a sheet music, but never recorded).

Yeah, but neither of them ever really achieved magic in their works like John Williams can. Their works are close, and very beautiful, but they don't really describe fantasy like Williams' music does, and don't evoke a sense of childlike wonder. I'm sure Williams has been inspired by classical and romantic era music, but he has a way of creating music that speaks to the child in our hearts the way no other historical composer has been able to up till now.
01/06/2017 Randy Kern
Spencer Bean and Wagner. That is the composer that influences Williams' compositions the most. It's in the orchestration and over the top-romantic structure of the music. They both know exactly what chords to hit to stir up a certain emotion
