Compositor:

The score was too good for that crappy propaganda riddled movie. It was quite a bore as well.

When you watch a composer conduct his own music, you can really see where he thinks the good bits are.

I'm from the UK and even I recognise that the film 'Born on the 4th of July' was the USA throwing away her innocence and prosperity in c 1964 just as Europe had done in 1914!

I just want to clarify that this channel is NOT monetized, and that i have nothing to do with the commercials on this channel. they are displayed because of a copyright infrigment and displayed at the request of the company who own the rights to the music.

5:27 Was that a mistake from the trumpetist or was it on purpose?

+ChooseReason Poor guy, I bet he had better days than that!
05/05/2016 ChooseReason
+sayenshin Oh for sure, it's Tim Morrison, one of the greatest players of all time. Nice to know even the pros are mortal and not always 100% perfect. :)
15/09/2016 Asshole-in-Chief
I wouldn't say it was a mistake from the trumpetist himself because he is a world-class solo musician. I would say his instrument let him down during that very moment. Among brass instruments, especially trumpets and french horns can actually do this from time to time. Some are more reliable than the ones from other manufacturers.
15/09/2016 ChooseReason
+BostonRedSoxForever Oh come on...he's probably playing a $6k horn. He made a mistake. It's a poor craftsman that blames his tools...

Único. Nostálgico. Un tema obligado que desde el inicio atolondra desafiante y soberbiamente con el solo de trompeta. Un tema que hace sentir que Williams tenia un baúl lleno de estas partituras en la sencillez de componerlas. Hermoso. Genial.

+Maximuscaligula This is the Boston Pops on a tour in Japan in the early 90s. Tim Morrisson (at that time still member of the BSO and the Pops) is the solo trumpetist.

Very moving...never ceases to amaze me how a songwriter / composer can evoke such intense emotions simply by arranging notes in a particular sequence.

John williams is a genius, when I listen to  his music, my heart is filled with pure emotion
10/08/2014 Christian Schonberger
It's not just the notes that evoke the emotions. Otherwise this would have the exact same effect played on a kazzoo whistle. The trumpet (in this case a non-transposing C-trumpet, clear and allowing for slightly higher notes as the Bb-trumpet (the standard for jazz, latin, funk and pop) as a solo instrument (played with a certain kind of expression) here for example represents the war and honor. It hits especially men like a knife right through the heart when played this incredib ly well - but don't forget the polyphonic texture underneath which goes into a crescendo and becomes a theme in itself.
There is counterpoint (two or melodies at the same time), texture, dynamics, the mix of timbres, the harmonies (they can change the meaning and con text of a melody completely, rhythmic background accompaniment, dramatic key changes, this is such a high art form and John Williams is still completely underrated.
01/03/2014 Patty Amato
The trumpet soloist is amazing.

Born on the Forth of July is one of the most touching movies that I have ever seen. Tom Cruise was robbed of an Oscar!

Ron Kovic's story was so sad and yet so beautiful in where his potentially life ending wounds took him from the bottom of the barrel to meaningful activism.

John Williams composed an amazing score.

The way we associate Ron Kovic´s tragedy of having had a beautiful youth and eventually go through desilussion and hope´s rebirth. The soundtrack does it all! Associate every period of his life.

Yes but i don't think the Indiana jones or star wars theme has the same feel as this. I think this is a bit deeper emotionally than most of his works.

I wonder if John composed this before, during or after filming. That would really tell us which one of them inspired the other. But for my money, no film ever suffers for having the brilliant John Williams providing the music.
