Yes, this is really great. But the one thing missing is the lack of at least 10 more seconds at the end to allow for audience applause/reaction. This ends much too abruptly, then jumping into the next video. Really would like to see the audience reaction. --Whatever.

It still amazes me to SEE an orchestra play this suite. I waited years after the movie's release for ANY recording of this music. Of course, no rerecording beats the soundtrack recording for the tempo and ferocity of Herrmann's conducting. But it still gives me a thrill to see an orchestra play this.

Hermann, was such a genius.A documentary, about how Hermann"made" the films he scored work, is out there. John Williams, has acknowledged, the unnerving, "Jaws" soundtrack, is based on herman. Just take a few moments, of "Psycho", the bass moments, an slow them down even more, and repeat them, you are almost there. Williams is great, but he borrows like mad, which is smart, as he steals from the best.

I have a friend who loves "Star Wars".Asked him if he ever heard,
"Holst: "The Planets", and surprisingly, he had not.He thought I was full of shit, that Williams, ripped off the whole thing. And I played for him, the recording, conducted by John Williams.
As e listened, he would name scenes in the film, that matched the music. He was a more than a little surprised.

Ahhhh, finally got to see it played by an orchestra - my favorite piece of music of all time.  This performance started out a bit slow and lacked urgency, then other parts were a bit fast and sounded rushed through - but at least John Gavin didn't interrupt the music with "Never did eat your lunch, didja?"

The music in a horror film defines it, in my opinion. The shrieking of this theme in Psycho made it as terrifying as the performances themselves. It's unbearable to listen to ( ironically, as it is so beautifully composed), it's sharp and severe, much like the murders.

Responder a este comentario >>

26/05/2015 Marc Kroll
+byron elenica Tough choice, considering, what Herrmann created, throughout his career. But as a musical score, that defined a film, it is likely the best.
Hitchcock, not one to honor people who worked for him, apparently, the music, was key. If you say to someone have you sen "Psycho"? and they may see images, but you can't eliminate them from the music. The images, and sound are as closely bonded, than in any other commercial film.

This music instantly causes an edginess in the listener.  I'm enthralled by the music's ability to make me feel so many emotions, all at the same time.  I applaud the composer, the orchestra and Mr. Hitchcock for his genius choice of this music to add to the film's power.  The screeching violins play their role of the stabbing knife immediately resulting in the colour red - the blood from the woman's body.

this seems strange to see people performing this- it`s so iconic i imagined it almost beyond people- there were times of such greatness like hitchcock bernard herrmann rod serling the woodstock era impressionistic art beethoven bach to name a few it almost seems beyond human- like  periods of alien invasion or something the aliens are gone for now we are left with mere humans- i hope something good comes again
