I got to see this movie in the theater when it came out in 1984. I loved it so much, I went back to the movie theater at least 3 more times to watch it again and again. It was just magnificent. I was a teenager but, wow, I had never seen anything like it. Made me fall in love with Mozart’s music. Still my favorite movie of all time.

To this date, I still think the portraying of Mozart is a failure in this movie. It's horrendous. But I guess that's what happens sometimes when ordinary people try to portray a genius. It's abysmal that it's tragedy. The guy who played Mozart couldn't even be bothered to dial down his American accent. Who knows Mozart was born a proud American.

Filthy czechs sung the yank national anthem!!! What else serves as proof that czechs are a filthy disgrace to Europe. All those filthy czechs begging for work in Bayerische Eisenstein and around should all be expelled back to their shit-holes Spicak, Klatovy and Pilsen.
I own a flat in Bodenmais and I keep distance from those fucking czechs, I won't even shop in a Rewe or Aldi supermarket with fucking czechs cashiers or any type of czech employees

Fue espectacular, y mas con el gusto musical tan puro por esta grandiosa leyenda!.

F. Murray Abraham is an amazing actor. Such a wonderful thing to see he was truly worried about paying the bills, as he said, seems like a very down to earth man.

F. Murray Abraham won best actor for this picture. There should have been two more added in 1985. Tom Hulce and Jeffrey Jones. All three were beyond superb in Amadeus. To remove anyone of them from the film would have unthinkable. It was more then the perfect cast.

On one evening when I was twelve years old my dad said to me: “Finish your homework, brush your teeth, put on your nightgown and then I’ll show you something very special, you’ll love it! You are such a lover of movies, I really want you to see this!”
And I was like: “Oh no, a biography movie??!!?? I don’t want to see it, It sounds dull and boring as hell, I don’t want to have anything to do with it.”
And he said: “ Watch 10 minutes and if you don’t like it, you can leave anytime, okay? Just 10 minutes!”
And so I watched, and I watched it til the last second.

I fell in love with this movie immediately I couldn’t help it I couldn’t resist it.

A night I’ll never forget as long as I live....

Great story! You have a great Dad and you have excellent taste. Amadeus still moves me so much. Best picture ever!
16/10/2018 Marco Aurélio
Siren, that is such a nice story and I share your feelings. I lost my mother early; grew up an orphan and once a year they would get me ready to visit my mother in a "mental hospital" which it reads so sanitized. My memories were similar to the images at the beginning of Amadeus and like you, I will never forget as long as I live. The movie has it all: the immense pain and loneliness of being smarter than most people, the struggles of the "commoners" that can't find an outlet for their despair, and finally of Salieri who is just smart enough to recognize genius; an " artiste-manque" as Ernest Becker describes in his groundbreaking The Denial of Death. Which is the book Alvi Singer suggests that Annie Hall reads; " instead of the cat book." Godard was right, cinema is everything.

Why? You need to be efficient to build new things (tear the old ones down in a centre). They did not have money. Planned economy was a disaster.
Do you believe somebody like Miloš Forman would have made any silly comment?) He is one of the smartest guys out there.
26/07/2018 Pilar Oñate
I think he means that they didn't build anything new or put new structures, buildings or anything, it's a bit a pity but in the other hand they still got such an incredible architecture....

Look it up. Hamill had played Mozart in the Broadway Amadeus.

I think it was a part that Hamill desperately wanted since he wanted to get away from the Skywalker role. Hamill also played the Elephant Man on stage.
