A beautiful theme for a beautiful soul. Still can’t believe she’s gone. But as it’s said, no one is ever really gone. Thank you Carrie Fisher for sharing your gifts as a writer, advocate, your wit, & fun spirit. Your strength in spite of hardship. I am disabled due to medical conditions, your ability to find the humor in your own struggles inspires me. Im so glad we will always have your work with us. You will forever be Leia..Hail the lovely traveler! You are part of the Force now, and to your amazingly talented mom to, hail another lovely traveler! Blessed be!

I don't want this to somehow be taken as misogynistic, but as a kid, Princess Leia was the first female character I really recognized as strong. She could hold her own with anyone in the galaxy (not really but you get what I mean). Carrie fisher was a huge influence on my world view as a kid and I will never forget the impact she had on my life. May the force be with you always. R.I.P.

This year has taken about 60% of the people and things I've loved most from me. I'm not even afraid to say "how can it possibly get worse?" because after today, I almost don't care.
28/12/2016 martyprod2
you unfortunatly told an awful truth and reality :(. the worst part is that im' starting to forget all the ones who has gone this year and who was important to me :(... i must force myself "hey he's dead ? ho no, he's still there !".. or the reverse. awful :( .
28/12/2016 MsFenriss
<3 I wish I could offer comfort to everyone who's suffering tonight. I just have to imagine that the knowledge that we are all out here sharing our grief (perhaps about the many losses, as well as this one particular kick in the gut) might offer some measure of comfort to all. I'm all full of unworthy curses and rage right now. Trying to calm myself. Trying to meditate on how she would want it.
28/12/2016 martyprod2
That's maybe sounding weird, but i'm calming myself by working on the video i'm talking above (my own musical cover of princess leia's theme).
Finishing the video and completly re-doing the editing, because the previous version which was finished since last thursday, is not "ok" anymore with what's happened today.

seeing her, in perfect healt, trying to do as best as i can, a tribute to her. i know she loved her musical theme, she told it at several occasions, as she's been invited to the recording of it at abbey roads, that was was a big moment of her life.

so finally, spending my night by remembering her in a good way, not a sad one, without forgetting the woman behind , Carrie Fisher, (i read her book, wishful drinking), and her other work, that i almost loved much more as an adult today, like When Harry meets sally, her work on Hook, her amazing and funny moments (like at Lucas Afi) etc..

Such a beautiful rendering of one of John William's greatest melodic compositions!  He recently commented that he felt that the music he composed for the "Star Wars" episodes was not very memorable.  He is far too hard on himself and humble beyond what I am comfortable observing. He deserves to know that this melody lives in the hearts of millions of people all over the world.  It is every bit as memorable and alive as the music of other masters like Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler and Wagner.  He should learn to appreciate what he accomplished with these films.  Like so many composers, he has certain favorites that he wishes more people appreciated.  The music he composed for "Star Wars" may not represent what he considers his best work, but he needs to remember that composers often feel this way about their most popular works. Perhaps he fears his work will not be taken seriously if it is too closely associated with the pop culture phenomenon that is "Star Wars."  Alec Guiness (the original Obi Wan Kenobi) felt the same way, wanting his earlier dramatic work to be remembered more than what he felt was inferior work in "Star Wars." Williams should acknowledge that this music is loved because it touches people in intangible ways.  Despite his greatness as a composer and conductor, John Williams does not have he power to determine what is most remembered by posterity: the people will decide that for him.  This music will surely be remembered long after he has passed into legendary memory.

Awesome theme! The "main" melody was used in the trailers for "The Force Awakens" (very likely all-computer) but didn't appear in the movie. Pleasure listening to this being performed in such a fantastic arrangement. Love the counterpoint! The movies nowadays are in dire need of music of this level of genius!

05/09/2016 Ana Paola Aldinio
This melody wasn't used in the trailer of TFA...that was "Han & Leia's theme"...it's very similar to this one, beautiful as well. :)
05/09/2016 truefilm
Well I was referring to the 2x nine note motif, which is exactly the same. John Williams often uses motifs from other themes within a film score as cross-reference. For example the "Love Theme" is also part of the opening march in "Superman" (1978), or uses these, with slight variations or in parts, as counterpoint to foreshadow the full theme. very clever dovetailing.
30/09/2016 Jacob Harris
It plays when Leia steps off the resistance transport on Takodana. Also, not "very likely" all computer since it was recorded by an orchestra conducted by John Williams.
28/12/2016 Tim Green
I think he was referring to the trailer music, which was composed by Confidential Music.

Another reason why this beautiful theme is so brilliant is that it fits right in with the Han and Leia romantic love theme (some even mistake the two) AND also with the Luke and Leia theme showing their special bond as siblings. Even though it was composed years before the other two.

A little trivia.  This piece was never used in the movie except for a little snippet played when Luke rushes into the detention cell to rescue the Princess.   Additionally, it is one of the few entire pieces of music composed solely for one character.  Carrie Fisher should be proud and honored that this one particular piece was composed JUST for her character!

It was used a lot of times during during the original Star Wars movie. It is one of the first motif to be exposed (before the main theme - if you exclude the title - and the Force theme).

Richard Bland Carrie Fischer was proud. She said John had her come and sit in the studio and had the orchestra play it for her. She was moved to tears, even as she reminisced on it. She said every girl should have a theme song.

It's very rare that a director knows how to film musicians especially in live broadcast recording. i saw a big jazz concert with some jazz celebritis playing with my music teachers one day, and where an ex friend of mine was filming the concert hired by the production. i was just next to him, and was seeing how bad he was filming always the wrong musicians during the solos, or important moment. like filming the pianist while there was a drum solo :) and missing in fact completly what was happening on stage. like if he didn't care or was not listening to what was happening or ... who knows ! ;) ...
26/03/2015 JonatasMonte
+martyprod2 I would love someday a single camera for each section that way you would be able to choose which one to watch at time or at least during a solo you would see the entire section instead of the wrong musician playing.
29/03/2015 martyprod2
+JonatasMonte Unfortunatly for an unknow reason, the multi angle feature of DVD / bluray for Concert is used very rarely. i still don't know why they never did that. it's very unfortunate. and i'm not even talking about the fact that at this point, there is still not an official concert of Mr Williams who has been released on DVD or bluray. that's why i took the decision to put all of the concerts i have from him here, especially when seeing that not a single fan did it before and that they were all keeping them for themselves or seeling them on ebay or under the table :(
16/02/2016 GGbreizh
+jvburnes They did not cover the 3rd oboist. Keisuke Wakao who is the principle Oboist of the Pops, and Assistant Principle of the BSO is the one who is shown.

When 'STAR WARS', first debued in Hollywood, at the Manns Chinese Theatre, the entire Hollywood Street was blocked off, and the front was cordoned off with yellow tape. I was in the crowd. When the limosene pulled up the cops were having difficulty witb keeping the crowd back. Darth Vader,See Threepio, and Artoo Deetoo, got out. I jumped over the tape , shook Darth Vader's hand, petted Artoo, the cops converged on me , and I ran for my life.
